* A complaint is received in person, via email, or via IRC.
* A valid complaint is defined as any allegation of behaviour breaking the rules, where the rule broken involved the space. (i.e. complaints about a member stealing from another member outside the space are considered not the space's problem)
* Generally the trustees will discuss the matter briefly in the trustee IRC channel and either:
** an email is sent to the complainer saying that the issue is being dealt with.
** an email is sent to the complainer saying the trustees do not consider the issue a space problem.
* Sporadically the trustees have a communication failure where everybody thinks somebody else sent the email.
* One of the trustees will add the issue to the trustee Trello tracker, under the "Issues arising" column
* The trustees will look for any
Jontyhttps://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/w/index.php?title=User:Jonty/Approximate_Complaints_Process&diff=48499User:Jonty/Approximate Complaints Process2015-11-23T14:28:13Z
Jonty: WIP

Why
On Thursday 19th November 2015 we set about clearing the dumping ground in the basement between the wood racks and members boxes. The area is not supposed to be storage but became one during the space refurbishment. We're now in desperate need of more members box shelves, so it has to go!

What
After working through everything in the area we found that >50% of it was actual rubbish, and the majority of the remainder should be either sold, installed, or removed from the space ASAP. If you know something about an item please let me know, I've not had time to search all the wiki/mailing list for information about them.

I will be actively chasing up everything on this list until we manage to clear the area.

A notice about removing things
Just because things on this list need removing does not mean they are free to take. ANYTHING BELONGING TO THE SPACE MUST NOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT TALKING TO THE TRUSTEES FIRST. If things are removed without approval it will be treated as theft.

Why
On Thursday 19th November 2015 we set about clearing the dumping ground in the basement between the wood racks and members boxes. The area is not supposed to be storage however became so during the space refurbishment.

If the owner of an item is wrong please let me know.

I will be actively chasing up everything on this list until we manage to clear the area.

Just because things on this list need removing does not mean they are free to take. ANYTHING BELONGING TO THE SPACE MUST NOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT TALKING TO THE TRUSTEES FIRST. If things are removed without approval it will be treated as theft.

On Thursday 19th November 2015 we set about clearing the dumping ground in the basement between the wood racks and members boxes. The area is not supposed to be storage however became so during the space refurbishment. We're now in desperate need of more members box shelves, so it has to go!

After working through everything in the area we found that >50% of it was actual rubbish, and the majority of the remainder should be either sold, installed, or removed from the space ASAP. I have NOD-ed everything that does not belong to the space or have a valid DNH.

The table below documents everything that remains in the area and the current status. If you know something about an item please let me know, I've not had time to search all the wiki/mailing list for information about them. If the owner of an item is wrong please let me know.
The owner of the item is noted in the table, and ANYTHING BELONGING TO THE SPACE MUST NOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT TALKING TO THE TRUSTEES FIRST. === What do ===

We need to sort out tent rental for the UK village at CCC this year. The deadline for organising a tent is June 20th, and we need pledges by the 15th so we can send the money in a cost-effective way.

How Much?
We're looking at a 6x6m tent for 982€ including a wooden floor. In addition, we'll probably want some chairs (2.5€ each) and tables (25€ each).

A rough calculation puts this at ~£800 (for 6x6 tent, 3x tables,10x chairs).
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is the backchannel behind London Hackspace. Many members are constantly connected and chatting there, and we have bots which automatically keep the channel informed of comings and goings in the space. If you have a quick question, or you need to get in touch with someone quickly, IRC is the way to do it.

Our main IRC channel is #london-hack-space on the Freenode network. Please familiarise yourself with our Code of Conduct before joining.

How to connect to IRC
If you're unfamiliar with IRC, your best bet is to start with Freenode's web interface. Once you're up and running with that, you can explore other IRC clients.

Channel Rules
* All paying members get ops in the channel at the discretion of the trustees.
* The channel can sometimes be not safe for work.
* Logging is permitted, but please don't publish any logs.
* If you pester/abuse the bots, you will get kicked.

Channel Bots
There are a couple of utility bots in the channel.

* Robonaut is an instance of Irccat running on Babbage. All paying members can add commands to him. Code for these is uploaded to Github.

My Nanode can't access the ENC28J60 and comes up ENC28J60 Version 0
Nanode uses an ethernet library which was written specifically to drive the ENC28J60 ethernet controller.

This device is used on several similar designs, and it must be noted that the library needs to be tailored so that it correctly addresses the ENC28J60 via digital pin 8, and not pin 10 as used in some ethernet shields.

To do this look at the DHCP test sketch and identify the line

es.ES_enc28j60Init(mymac);

for Nanode version 5 users this should be changed to:

es.ES_enc28j60Init(mymac,8);

Pin 8 is the pin used by the microcontroller to select the ENC28J60 for the SPI bus and if you don't add this, the MCU won't be able to communicate with the ENC28J60.

If you forget to do this, when you first power up there will be a message

ENC28J60 Version 0

This will appear as ENC28J60 Version 7 after the change has been made and you will know that all is well.

We are in the process of creating a Nanode specific library that defaults to pin 8, so this change will not be needed in the future.

How do I get in touch with other people with Nanodes?
* Have a look here for Register of Nanodes and Users
* Use the webchat client that runs in your browser.
* Or point your IRC client at [irc://irc.freenode.net/nanode #nanode on irc.freenode.net].
* The #nanode channel IRC chat logs can be viewed here

If you've not used IRC before there are many tutorials out there for you.

If you're unsure of IRC etiquette, this guide might be worth a glance. More irritable users tend to get annoyed at away messages, so you may want to find out how to turn this off.

A good option if you have a server is to set up a screen session to run Irssi so that you don't miss anything. is a good guide to using screen and Irssi.

How do I connect External Power to my Nanode?
There are at least 3 ways to power the Nanode

# With a 5V FTDI cable or adaptor
# With a standard USB lead
# With an external dc power supply

When using the FTDI cable, put the black wire closest to the USB socket.

With external dc power, use a supply less than 12V, 9V is preferable and connect the positive to the screw terminal closest to the Magjack and the 0V to the next terminal along.

If you want to use 12V or higher, you will need to fit a suitably sized TO220 heatsink (say 50mm x 25mm)to the tag of the 7805 regulator. The Voltage range for the regulator is 7V to 35V, but in the interests of power efficiency and overheating we do not recommend more than 12V dc.

What are the other screw terminal for?
Nanodes can be connected to networks in a number of ways, and the screw terminals provides a low cost wired serial bus. Nanodes can be wired together using 4 core telephone cable or network cable, which provides power distribution and communication between Nodes. A separate wiki page describing this feature will be published in the near future.

Why do I need an FTDI cable? (and where can I get one ?)
The Nanode is intended to be a low-cost ethernet-connected arduino alternative for use in sensors, distributed control etc. As a result, it will usually be deployed in a fixed location once the code has been written, and the software will not often be changed. To reduce the cost, the board does not include the FTDI USB-to-serial chip commonly used on Arduino, but instead uses an external cable that can be re-used on other nanodes (or, indeed, other programming projects).

Sources of these cables are listed in Project:Nanode/Programming_cables

Where can I get a driver for the FTDI cable?
Jontyhttps://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/w/index.php?title=LondonAerospace&diff=46681LondonAerospace2015-04-29T13:46:45Z
Jonty: Reverted edits by Jonty (talk) to last revision by Tgreer
