London Hackspace members are allocated one plastic box in for storage of personal items. Your personal box can be considered 'off-limits' to other members and visitors - within reason. In certain circumstances you may be able to store items outside of your personal box.

Please don't take a box if you don't intend to use it or, if you empty your box please return it to the stack. Space is limited and if/when we run out of boxes empty boxes are considered fair game (if you take the last box please tell the list so we can order more).

Storage boxes must be labelled with the member's name and membership number and should be left in the basement storage area.

For ease you can print a member's box label using the Membership_Kiosk

It goes without saying that the space should not be held responsible for any items left in your personal box.

Specifications
Box:
* Dimensions (H × W × D)
** Maximum external dimensions: 260 mm × 360 mm × 460 mm

Disposal
* If a box is found without labelling identifying the member it will be disposed of after three weeks.
** Best effort will be made to identify the member and give them three weeks notice. If they cannot be found the main mailing list will be notified.
* If a box is found belonging to an ex-member, they will be given three weeks notice to remove the contents and then it will be placed in the 3-week bin.
* If a large number of unidentifiable boxes are being disposed of, inform a trustee who will email all members.

Yuripattisonhttps://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/w/index.php?title=Pledge:_New_Laser_Cutter&diff=44522Pledge: New Laser Cutter2014-12-18T11:51:53Z
Yuripattison: /* Pledges */

London Hackspace's current laser cutter has served us very well over the last four years. It's consistently one of the most popular and most useful tools in the space and it's gained us a lot of members.

However, it's not without faults: the tube (and the power supply) still lasts for a significantly shorter time than it should, it's often a complete pain to maintain, and in some respects it's showing its age. The quality of imported laser cutters has improved substantially over the last few years. Not to mention that these days we can probably find space for something a little bit more substantial.

We'd like to buy a new Silvertail A0 laser cutter from Just Add Sharks.

Just Add Sharks is a fairly new company formed by two guys from the UK Hackspace scene who wanted to import good-quality laser cutters into the UK. They're no strangers to using laser cutters in a Hackspace environment, and they've already put some of their machines in a number of other UK spaces. We've seen their machines in person and they are much nicer laser cutters than what we currently have.

The spec of the Silvertail is:

* 1200x900mm cutting area (our current machine is 560x300mm)
* 80 Watt laser tube (our current machine is 40W)

In addition, this machine has the following major improvements in quality over our current laser cutter:

* A Reci laser tube and power supply - the closest you can get to a high quality name brand while still being a Chinese import.
* Through-bed fume extraction, which results in cleaner cuts.
* Well-made, counter-sprung mirror mounts, which make re-aligning the laser a lot easier.
* Gas struts on the lid so it doesn't hit you on the head every so often.
* Many other minor improvements.

The controller and software on the Silvertail is the same MPC6515/LaserCut 5.3 combination as we have on our current laser cutter. Seemingly this is the only thing which hasn't changed in the last four years, but at least we know it works and existing users are familiar with it.

Cost
The cost of this machine is £6150. We are happy to match 50% of this amount from the London Hackspace budget, so we need to raise £3075 through pledges.

A new group is forming to set up a new darkroom/wet lab in the new space! Blanca Regina 19:23, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
We are gonna pledge for the materials we need and try to get on the construction to have something ready before the open day 1st june 2014

What is it?
A multipurpose space,a combined darkroom & wet room, ideal for photographers, film developing and screen printing and other people who want to do dark, wet things. The initial goal is to set the darkroom up and running suitable for black & white developing/printing/toning/screenprinting.

In the diagram, you can see the wet working area is at the back of the room. There's is the plumbing ready to fit a sink at one end. This bench is for all "wet work" – processing film and more. a In front of this area a big table 2 meters long at least for "dry area". We will build storage shelves under the benches and above the sink.

Where is it?
In the basement

What's the state of play?
PDF version of the darkroom layout proposal:

So far, the plumbing is ready. There are some small sinks but ideally we will like to get an industrial one with shower or around 1.5 meters long ( 100 pounds second hand)
There is need to build up a wall that divides it from the etching and dry area and isolates it from the dust and other workshop facilities.
As well there is a need to build the wall and set up a curtain as its sketched in the map.
For the hot water we might need a heater. There is one for the kitchen facilities that is in storage we need to ask for it or another.
There is some photography equipment but we may need to get all back and in good night.
Locate the light unit for a light table and screen-print. Along that fit the rest of the equipment for film and screenprint processing
Currently there's two sockets. All need to be rewired around the room-

We need a light switch on the inside of the room with a light on the outside that will show if someone is working on the room, and a working lock (which is unlockable from the outside using a large flat-blade screwdriver in case of emergencies). The light switch and the door lock handle both have glow in the dark tape on it. This should be safe for most film purposes but generally keep your film away from it when loading it into the developing tanks (when we acquire these).
After all the room needs to be blacked out.

Still on the To Do list:
# Build the multipurpose room
# Run some test sessions & inductions to the dark/wet room.
# Plan the workshops for photography developing, film and screenprint

Those involved in same at Cremer St:
* Phil helped out by building the benches and helping attach blackout curtain frames around the windows.
* Nicholas helped clean out the room so we could see what's staying and what was just being stored in the room.
* Paddy D plumbed in a sink (wombled to us by Billy) // again Paddy (doing some plumbing)

* Many other minor improvements.
