Wet/dry would be great, but if you need dry belts, there may be a few spares in the cabinet underneath the sander. If they're all used up, they were a pretty standard 4" Silverline belt from B&Q.

Revision as of 20:01, 21 June 2011

There is now a belt sander in the workshop.

It's a bit of an odd one - it was intended for polishing metallurgical samples and will operate with the belt wet. There are controls for a belt sprayer and a washbowl. However, that needs a suitable waterproof belt which I haven't been able to find.

It's currently fitted with a normal dry belt. The tracking adjustment is rather more precise than those usual on a DIY grinder but it's still possible for it to be wrong : watch the belt and, if it appears to be wandering off centre (there should be shiny metal visible on both edges), either adjust it or stop it. You can see the places on the machine where it's wandered in the past and eaten the casing ..

If you need a stop to guide your workpiece, or need to use the rounded end of the belt, you may find it convenient to remove the cover from the right hand side. Please put it back afterwards,
