Brother XL-3600

Instructions can be found on Brother's website here

Toyota 2260

We have had an electric pedal operated Toyota 2260. It appears to not be operational anymore? Last update on it was someone tried to fix it with parts from another machine but it's entirely non-working now.

John Lewis Tiny Purple Machine

THIS IS FOR LIGHTWEIGHT FABRICS ONLY. Absolutely NO denim (like jeans fabric) or heavy materials like that. As in the instructions: If needle does not go through fabric, do not force it.

PurpleSmachine1.JPG

Also of note: It has quite a wide "free arm" - it's pretty much useless for anything small and tubular (like edges of sleeves or very small bags/pouches if you understand that).

Instruction Manual

These thumbnail pictures should help you start using the machine. It's mostly straight forward if you have the instructions in front of you. PLEASE remember to put the instruction manual back in the box so the next person can read it and learn how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine correctly. With the instructions it's easy-peasy to use.

Purple Machine: How to use Presser Foot & Wind Bobbin pt 1
Purple Machine: Loading the bobbin
Purple Machine: Threading the Machine
Purple Machine: Changing Needle and Thread Tension

Location of Extra Bobbins

They're in the box of random thread & haberdashery bits in the drawer directly underneath the cabinet sewing machine cabinet section.

"Trained" Users

People who are willing to show others how to use the sewing machines. Does not guarantee they won't stop you from hurting yourself or damaging anything.

Who Sewing Machine Skills
Ciarán Toyota 2260 Very Basic
Akki John Lewis Basic

Very Basic - Someone who can get the machine threaded. Able to run a stitch forwards and backwards. Basic - Can show how to use the other stitches and advise on thread tension etc.

Accessories

We have the following in stock to be used with the sewing machine. I will find a box for all this to go in, it should all be kept together

  • Needles - Hand and Machine (Leather and "normal") - various sizes
  • Tailors Sheers - For fabric cutting only!
  • Black Thread
  • Pins
  • Tape Measure
  • Seam Ripper

November 2012 - We now have this box of random stuff too!

Tamsin's List of Nice to have's

  • Chalk or marking pencils
  • Elastic
  • Zips
  • Buttons, poppers, hooks n eyes
  • interfacing - What's this?! -- Ciarán
    • Interfacing is used to strengthen fabric. It's like an inner-layer material - shirt collars or waistbands would use it, and comes in different weights Phae 09:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
