Posted 11 March 2014

We are looking for experienced developers to join the team here in London.

At Xively, we're building apis and services to help connected product companies realise their products.

We've been building an evolution of our core product that focusses on the messaging requirements of connected devices as well as the support and provisioning tools needed to deploy, debug and manage tens of thousands of commercial and consumer devices.

Our front-end is built in Rails and our backend services and user facing apis are predominantly written in Clojure. Our apis are a mix of classic REST apis and a messaging api based on the MQTT protocol. Our predominant data store is Cassandra (Datastax Enterprise) and there is a lot of interesting work to be done around analysing, reporting and triggering based on device data.

We are running in our own multi data-centre environment.

Essentially you should have

  • a willingness to learn and write functional code in clojure

Budget is between 15 - 18k, depending on experience.

Web developer needed to develop open source, customisable email lobbying tool for NGOs and campaign groups, similar to writetothem.com.

Posted: 6th August 2013

We are the Environmental Investment Organisation. Our mission: To tackle climate change. How? Through Environmental Tracking: a market-mechanism designed to drive the world’s largest companies to lower emissions and improve transparency by linking company share price to emissions.

We will be launching a campaign to lobby the largest asset owners in the world to commit 1% of their assets to support the Environmental Tracking mechanism. We need help from a web developer in designing an open source, customisable email lobbying tool that will enable supporters to find their pension fund or other asset owner and easily send them an email to ask them to look into supporting this mechanism.

Knowledge of php, SQL or other database tools would probably be useful although you are likely more of an expert than we are...

Conversations with other NGOs suggest that this is a vitally needed tool and could be used by many campaign groups for a diverse range of issues.

Unfortunately we have no budget, so please only get in touch if you can afford to offer a few days for free.

Please email sam.gill@eio.org.uk if you would like to get involved.

Web Developer @ http://www.icomon.org

The Iconmon organisation needs a website rebuild. Essentially its a basic CMS with a slight graphics make-over.

One definite change, which is that we would like there to be a password-secured area for the Board papers and other shared files that the Board need access to. There's no requirement to use any particular back-end, and in fact I don't know what CMS (if any) the hosting it is moving to has.

Some form of written instructions for the above would be needed.

The site wouldn't need to be built immediately, as it will take a few months to get a proper spec together, but at the moment the Board are interested in a rough estimate of the likely cost.

Contact Oni in the space or email (oni@section9.co.uk) or Katie Eagleton (katieeagleton@gmail.com) with an idea of time and cost.

NIB DRESS FIXING

I made this electronic garment with nibs - http://vimeo.com/24923549 - for my fashion degree graduation project. And since then I had to travel with it for a couple of shows. Unfortunately, it broke during the last move and it has be ready for another show the beginning of July. The guy I last worked with has become very busy with his own full time job so I am looking for someone that can fix it and also maybe suggest ideas to make it a lot more durable. I have very little knowledge of electronics and it would be really great if anyone might be available for this job. Or if you know someone else who might be interested in making a little bit of cash, or just generally interested in this kind of projects, please send them my way. My contact info is as below. Thank you so much. Steven e. steven@steventai.co.uk m. 07515 8080 36

Wireless Hack for Smart Phone - Building a prototype

@ ioWorld (http://ioworld.com) we develop really simple, really useful tech...

I'm currently working on a project requiring a hardware hack that's outside the scope of my own capabilities; I want to create a wireless fob that a smart phone (Android, to start with) can detect at approx. 100cm. Any protocol (inc. Bluetooth) will be ok for the POC/prototype but there is a strong commercial application for this tech, so ultimately a low-power protocol will be preferable. There has been a useful tech discussion thread on the hackspace groups channel entitled "Wireless Hack for Smart Phone" which you may want to take a look at first.

Interested? Want to find out more? Get in touch ASAP: alan@ioWorld.com NB: This is also listed on the (very empty) NonCommercial board
