Amateur Radio Foundation Course, Q2 2012

Info

We are currently looking to organise a foundation course at the London Hackspace, subject to instructor availability and enough interested people.

If you are interested in getting your foundation license then please add your name to the list below. There will be a limit of 10 people per course, but if there is sufficient interest then we shall do our best to run multiple courses (although not concurrently).

Please note: There is an exam fee of £27.50, and you will also need to purchase a copy of 'Foundation Licence - NOW!' from the RSGB, currently at £4.99+shipping. I believe we can get a discount on these when running a course, though. These costs will not be covered by the Hackspace. There may also be additional costs if we need to obtain an outside instructor.

Old stuff

This is here just in case we need to refer to it. I've stripped out anything that appears to be non-useful --Filbert 23:15, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

First course has happened

The first foundation license course happened over two saturdays on the 11th and 17th of September 2011 at a cost of about 35 quid (plus buying the book if you can't borrow it from the library). It looks like there is enough interest for another course but nothing definite happening yet. Perhaps the names of people who have passed can be check off the list so we can see how many remain. Add yourself to the list below if interested. Pester the mailing list and offer Russ beer if there is no word by January.

finding an instructor

I have decided that "The Bromley and District Amateur Radio Society" is probably the closest so I've had a look at course from them.

From their website:

"Foundation Course - Our next course will be on Feb 12th and Feb 26th 2011 if you are interested in taking this please let us know as soon as possible."

Newest update 4th feb 2011

SO, final chance to get this all sorted out. This is the deal:

"We have three places and I must post the exam entries Monday afternoon.

Alan"

Deposits and application forms must be sent by POST and arrive by Monday.

update 12/1/11

This is the email we got from bdars:

Hi Sam and Kal

The next course is on Saturdays 12 and 26 February, from 8.45am till 6pm. The exam is on the second day. The fee for the course is around £50-55 which includes the exam fee of £27.50. We ask for a deposit of £30 with the course application form and the exam entry form. They should be sent to BDARS 77 Eldred Drive Orpington BR5 4PE. www.bdars.org/CourseRegistration3.rtf www.rsgb.org/tutors/general/pdf/catce.pdf

The final amount is determined when we know how many share the hall hire which is our largest fixed cost.

You will want to get the course book, Foundation Licence Now from the RSGB. http://www.rsgbshop.org/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Training_19.html We hope you will decide to join us,

Regards Alan Bromley & District Amateur Radio Society

With that in mind we will have to get a definate number of people together ASAP, and someone should take charge of getting in all the deposits so that we can make a formal booking.I would also suggest that maybe we have a physical meeting in LHS with all those interested on tuesday or asap to get everyone together and discuss details. - Kal
