This page is for planning the build out of our new space, currently centred on 445 Hackney Road.

Please note, this is for planning on bringing up a new space to the level we currently enjoy, not wild new awesome things. (that can come after) This is so that we have a action and cost plan to maintain the level of our current space.

Basement

  • Extraction for individual tools and room dust.
  • Power distribution to the center of the room etc
  • Moar network sockets around room (ACnode)
  • Look at flooring situation

Ground Floor

  • Moar network
  • Mid room power
  • Kitchen build out
  • Electric release on the rear door
  • Building of classroom
  • Draft proof louver windows

Car Park

  • Member access for car parking and bike storage
  • Car or motorbike working
  • Paint spraying

Facilities

Desk space

  • General areas should have good light
  • Laptop areas can be less roomy but not suffer glare

Quiet areas

  • Dual-use with workshops / meeting rooms
  • More than one needed to avoid conflicts but provide flexibility
  • Music
  • Film

Arts

  • Large flat area (might be part of adjacent construction area)
  • Sink
  • Drying
  • Spray paint not allowed
  • Might include etch station
  • Might include non-oily machinery such as laser cutter, 3d printing

Electronics

  • Mostly for precision equipment and testgear - clean, tidy.
  • Must have adequate parts storage
  • Can include small soldering area (but soldering can often be done on desk space)
  • Probably colocated with desks as activities are similar
  • Might include non-oily machinery such as laser cutter, 3d printing

Construction

  • General workshop.
  • May include popular tools such as pillar drill, rage saw.
  • Some overlap with arts, oily area, wood.

Woodwork

  • Kept separate from oily area
  • Dust extraction on individual tools
  • Possible overlap with several areas
  • Cannot overlap such that dust is a problem to other areas
  • Cannot overlap such that serfaces are contaminated with oil

Oily

  • Light metalwork, machine tools
  • Bike workshop
  • Lathes, Mills
  • Needs easy access to outside for incoming bikes
  • No grinding allowed

Dirty

  • Welding
  • Grinding

Total Costing

The above will cost approximately - £xxx
