Hello! I'm Heather aka Akki14 on IRC and here. You can just call me Akki or Mrs. S or Heather. It's pronounced Ah-key and it's from Jane Yolen's Dragons Blood novels. I liked the character because she's a bit headstrong and independent which I always hoped to be (and may slowly be getting to that point after a decade or so).
I have lots of different interests, ranging from domestic, to science, to the arts.
Stargazy Photography is my website. I make cyanotypes and use a big (sort of) 4x5inch sheet film camera.
Future Projects
- Possibly a wooden 5x4 film camera.
- 10x8 split-back contact printing frame.
- Bookbinding stuff - specifically a laying press (or steal/borrow a workmate and modify if necessary), and a plough (fancypants paper trimming for books)
- The weird LEDs-in-resin-nightlight weekend project from MAKE (I have fancy LEDs for this purpose... just need the resin now)
- Maybe a Monster book covered in teeth, eyes & fake furry bits.
- Fake cola *not* using essential oils because they're difficult to obtain, and in the case of neroli oil, expensive to obtain.
- MOAR BLINKEN LIGHTEN!
- MOAR CAKES&cookies&foodstuff ...
Projects Finished
- Make light-up harry potter wands for nieces (using UV and bright white light LEDs) for Christmas (er, hang on that's coming up soon) Made one so far ...
- Little table contraption for my UV light that I use for making cyanotypes.
- Crochet hook
- Project:Hackalicious Beard!
- Project:Drama Llama
Stuff I'd like to donate but do not think there is space in The Space for it yet
- small (medium format film size) contact printing frames once we have a darkroom going in the Wet Room so we can use it for making alt process prints (cyanotypes, van dyke brown prints, etc.)
- Possibly a medium format (120 film) Brownie camera or two for people to use/abuse, probably more useful once we have the darkroom/Wet Room.
Box Location
Using the new labelling system - s09b12. I like occasional gifts and surprises (nice surprises, no dead bugs etc, please. They won't scare me, they're just a bit gross :/)
