Prusa/Parts List

From London Hackspace Wiki

Bill of Materials

This is the list of the ingredients that are necessary to build the Hackspace Prusa.

The original design uses a couple of smooth rods for the Y-axis, but we've used some angle-iron, and a couple of desk-drawer slides. It's a womble-ish solution... :))

If you want to provide the parts that we don't have yet, add your name to the volunteer section for the part, and go for it. There are links to the order pages for a couple of supplier's websites, but if you find one that we haven't looked at yet, then add them in.

If a part doesn't have a name attached, then it's one that we still need...

This parts list is partially copied from here, http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel#Bill_of_Materials with adaptations for the difference in the design used. Any references to the Build Manual are based on this document, http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel_Build_Manual

83 M8 nut Fastener 100 pack for £2.50 - Clerkenwell Screws. Billy
93 M8 washer Fastener 100 pack for £2.50 - Clerkenwell Screws. Billy
6 M8*30 mudguard / fender washer Fastener These are also known as penny washers, they have a much larger outer diameter than regular washers. Salvaged from the random screws box in the workshop. Billy
2 M4×20 bolt Fastener To mount the extruder [ have plenty of M4 x 16 - will they do ? artag]
2 M4 nut Fastener To mount the extruder
2 M4 washer Fastener To mount the extruder
22 M3×10 bolt Fastener Artag
16 M3×25 bolt Fastener Or eight M3×25 bolt plus eight M3x20 bolts. The M3x25 bolts are too long for the recent Prusa z-motor-holder and rod-clamp, and also for the Z motor couplings. See Section 8, steps 4 and 13 for details.
4 M3×40 bolt Fastener
70 M3 washer Fastener
40 M3 nut Fastener 8 optionally locknut / stop nut / nyloc Artag
2 M3 grub screw / set screw Fastener M3x8 seems about ideal but anything 6mm or longer should do. If these are hard to get, additional M3×10 bolts will do the job instead. [have m3x6 - artag] Artag
3 608 roller skate / inline skate / skateboard bearing Bearings You don't need to ask for a "608 bearing" at a skate shop, just ask for wheel bearings. Some were bought, some were wombled. Billy
4 ballpoint pen springs Spring To fit over M3 bolts. Ballpoint pens are a common, cheap source of suitable springs. They are about 25mm long and compress to about 10mm.
6 M8×370mm Threaded rod 3 per side. These rods form the side frames. Billy
4 M8×294mm Threaded rod Front/rear connectors. These join the side frames together. Billy
3 M8×440mm Threaded rod Top/bottom connectors. We've used a slightly different design. It'll be properly documented later. Billy
2 M8×210mm Threaded rod Z-axis leadscrews Billy
1 M8×50mm Threaded rod or M8x30 or longer bolt for X idler. Take care: if the bolt is too long, it may not be threaded along a sufficient length
2 8mm×420mm Smooth rod X-axis structural support, as well as slides. See note 1 below for the grades of steel necessary. Billy
2 8mm×406mm Smooth rod Y-axis structural support, as well as slides. See note 1 below for the grades of steel necessary. This is from the original Prusa design. We've used angle iron and desk-drawer slides. Testing and comparison of the design will be needed. Womblish solution...:)) They've been provided anyway, in case this solution doesn't work well. It'll work as a Repstrap though. Billy
2 8mm×350mm Smooth rod Z-axis structural support, as well as slides. See note 1 below for the grades of steel necessary. Billy
1 225mm×225mm print top plate Thick Sheet Original design spec. We've used a sheet of scrap plywood of a different size instead. This refflects the different print volume size, due to the difference in the size of the Y-axis. Billy
1 140mm×225mm print bottom plate Thick Sheet Original design spec. This part may not be necessary, as the Prusa Iteration 2 design does not use a print bottom plate. We'll experiment and document. Billy
1 840mm×5mm T5 pitch timing belt Belt Y-axis belt. Original design spec. We may be able to get away with using a shorter belt, due to the difference in design. We'll experiment and document.
1 900mm×5mm T5 pitch timing belt Belt X-axis belt.
1 NEMA 17 bipolar stepper motor Stepper X-axis stepper motor. Hipster recommended this one http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/sy42sth471684b-p-29.html See note 2 below. Tweaker
1 NEMA 17 bipolar stepper motor Stepper Y-axis stepper motor. Hipster recommended this one http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/sy42sth471684b-p-29.html See note 2 below.
2 NEMA 17 bipolar stepper motor Stepper Z-axis stepper motors. Hipster recommended this one http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/sy42sth471684b-p-29.html Please note that these ones have to run in parallel, so they need to be a matched pair. Also, eee note 2 below.
1 NEMA 17 bipolar stepper motor Stepper Extruder stepper motor. Hipster recommended this one http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/sy42sth471684b-p-29.html but any stepper motor that can provide at least 3.4Kg/cm of torque will do the job. Also, see note 2 below.

Note 1: 304 Stainless Steel, A2 Tool Steel, or O1 Tool Steel are recommended for smooth rods as it can help to prevent friction from rust and manufacturing (straightness) standards are higher. Rust issues can be prevented on the normal steel rods by maintaining a coat of oil.

Note 2: When ordering the motors, be sure to get ones with at least 20mm of shaft length. Shorter shafts require modifications to the X pulley assembly and Z motor couplers.
