As part of finding a low cost, 'easy win' development that gets the space open so we can enjoy the space that we have and rebuild our community, we're currently (Feb 2024) undertaking some fit-out work to EX2. It might not be the space we had at Ujima, but we hope it will be a lot better than what we've had for the last year! We can probably work in this 'lite mode' for a while - all the key bits of equipment can operate, and there are plenty of successful hackspaces around that are thriving with much less space - but we still plan to apply for grant funding to build out a mezzanine structure for a long-term home if we stay at EX2. We'll keep the build of these walls light and flexible, so we can re-deploy them in another version of the space once funding comes through.

A draft layout can be found here: File:22029-E199-D01-r02 LHS RoPR LITE - GROUNDPLAN FOR DISCUSSION.pdf

Partition Wall

We will start with a partition wall that can will subdivide the space into 2 main regions. There will be a quiet space for laser cutting, 3d printing, electronics and similar craft activities. The other half can be used for wood and metal activities (eventually with a roof to contain most of the noise and dust).

Thankyous

We'd like to thank the local branch of Builder Depot for their generous support in giving us timber for this build completely free! They're located nearby so are a great source of materials for projects and they also have a bunch of buying guides that provide useful information

We'd also like to thank a particular member who donated a large amount of money in support of this build, which is essentially paying for all the screws, fixings and other stuff not covered by Builder Depot. You know who you are!
