London Hackspace is its members - we're a non-profit organisation and the majority of our income comes from membership subscriptions. Our members are responsible for keeping the space running. (The Cost of Hacking shows an up-to-date breakdown of our monthly expenses and donations.)

What You Get

Apart from the warm fuzzy feeling that you're supporting London's hackerspace, being a member also gains you certain other benefits:

How Much?

We ask that you pay what you think the space is worth to you. In order for the space to be financially healthy, each member needs to pay an average of £15/month.

Running an organisation like this in London isn't cheap (our monthly budget is £11,000, and most of that is rent!).

If you really can't afford £15/month then email membership@london.hackspace.org.uk to discuss.

Who Can Join?

Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16. Under-16s aren't allowed to join as members but can attend the space with adult supervision. For members between the ages of 16 and 18, the Trustees will need to talk to parents/guardians informally before allowing unsupervised access, and can remove the right to unsupervised access at their discretion.

How to Join

To become a member of the London Hackspace, please sign up here.

You'll be given instructions how to set up a standing order from your bank. The sign-up process will provide you with all the information you'll need. It will take a few days for your payment to be recognised by our system, and you will still be considered a guest - admitted only at the invitation of another member - until that time.

Payments can take up to 4 working days from the date of your standing order, depending on your bank. Our reconciliation script runs at 5am every day to update the database. Assuming you've got the right reference in your payment, there's nothing to worry about until at least 5 working days after the date of your standing order.

If you can't set up a standing order, you can use the details to send a one-off bank transfer, or pay in cash at any Barclays branch. If you do pay in cash from a Barclays branch please double and triple check the reference, and make sure your handwriting is readable, we frequently get failed transactions because we can't match the references!
