depth of hypnosis

It is often said in hypnosis sessions to go deeper, deeper inside, deeply relaxed, deeper still, etc.. The confusion is that, really, it's quite fair to say that there isn't a depth of hypnosis - but there is an illusion of depth and that can be useful to exploit.

Is there really a depth? Some say no. Some say yes, I don't know. I think depth is an illusion caused by the use of relaxation techniques exployed to give an impression of something physical happening when in truth hypnosis doesn't require relaxation at all but it's useful as a way of convincing someone of it's effectiveness.
