Description

"Well, when you look into infinity you realise that there are more important things than what people do all day" - Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes

It's like an Infinity Mirror but it's a box full of "stars". Intending on making it very large (2ft x 2ft x 8inches) 15 x 15 x 9 inches.

Components

  • Mirror Perspex
  • LEDs
  • Clear Perspex
  • 1-way Mirrored Privacy Film
  • Cool-temp Glue Gun + Glue Stick
  • Scalpel
  • Wire
  • Soldering Iron, Wire Stripper
  • LED Fairy lights
  • electrical tape
  • Spare plywood and wood scraps

Process

Prototype

  • Spend forever fighting dxf files and inkscape. Eventually get design into right format for laser cutter.
  • Cut out sides and back of box on laser cutter
  • Cut out clear perspex front
  • Apply mirrored privacy window film to one side of the clear perspex front. Trim film to exact size of perspex with a scalpel.
  • Making sure everything's really clean, use cool-temp hot glue gun to glue everything together
  • Glue in LEDs and attempt to wire up everything
  • Explode some LEDs

Final Build

  • Build perspex box using hot glue
  • Steal some fairy lights instead
  • Make wooden box surround
