When

From 1pm on Saturday 30th July until we're fed up or sleepy.

Why

There are many sources of data, and many silos of knowledge where people are hacking the data. This day will be an opportunity to bring a bunch of developers together to talk, discuss, develop and hack for the greater good.

What

  • Rail timetable data - understanding the CIF file format and the technicalities of interpreting schedules
  • Real-time train data - what we can do with it, how we can visualise it. It would be awesome if we could build a map of "where are the trains" on the Overground, or a departure board for Hoxton inside the Hackspace.
  • Talking about iBus
  • Highways Agency data and how to visualise and work with it
  • ...and whatever comes up

How

Data sources that might be useful:

  • Rail data via poggs
  • Trackernet, cycle hire, etc via TfL
  • TfL Journey planner
  • OpenStreetMap
