: Pronunciation's probably the wrong word - it's orthography and homophones that are the problem.  My thinking was that it can be difficult for someone to work out the spelling "Dijkstra" from hearing "Dexter".  The other two (Kay and Hoare) sound like other words: it's best not to be surprising, given we have so many other simple names to choose from. Pronunciation's probably the wrong word - it's orthography and homophones that are the problem. My thinking was that it can be difficult for someone to work out the spelling "Dijkstra" from hearing "Dexter". The other two (Kay and Hoare) sound like other words: it's best not to be surprising, given we have so many other simple names to choose from. Ms7821 08:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
