QCad
QCad is a useful and free program to make DXF files for use with the laser cutter.
Download
You can download QCad for windows, mac or linux.
Documentation
The official documentation is a bit thin on the ground but there are other tutorials available.
Example and tips
There are 2 stages to create each part of a new shape:
- choose what type of shape you want
- this will usually change the toolbar to the snap tools. These let you choose to snap to grid, snap to edges etc. You can change these as you draw.
The lower toolbar gives you hints about what input the program expects next.
Fonts
QCad comes with some built in fonts. I haven't worked out how to import more.
