To brew mead
Progress
- Lots of honey collected from bees
- Demijohns and airlocks procured
- Equipment sterilised
- Brewers yeast obtained
- Bottles obtained
Ingredients
- Honey
- Water (tepid)
- Orange segments
- Tablespoon of brewers yeast
Method
- Sterilise equipment (If you don't want to sterilise equipment, you'd better look at trying out Project:Growing_bacteria instead )
- Heat water
- Pour about 1/3 honey and 2/3 water into demijohn, leaving room for orange as flavouring
- Add 1tbsp of brewers yeast
- Add filled airlock bung
- Wait 3 months
- Wait more
- Sterilise bottles and bottle
- Drink
Observations
Mead takes ages to brew, and leaving it to naturally clarify yields the best results. Even once bottled, it matures well with age.
Advanced
Measure gravity before / after fermentation, to calculate the alcohol percentage.
Mixers
Mead and Club Mate
Don't drive drunk.
