We'll be heading up on the Friday night and going on a Hackspace pub crawl with all the other Hackspaces.
There are currently two proposals for a Maker Faire project. The airship is currently the most likely.

* An airship
We are also organising a game of Quaser for Saturday night - Quasar
* A 3D printer (documented below)

Hack Area
This year we'll be running the hack area, hacking, making, and talking to people about what we're doing. Pretty much just messing around like we normally do.

Concept
We need to tell Maker Faire what we'll be taking up with us, how much power we need, and if we have anything huge.

A giant 3d printer, using concrete, plaster or some such substance for media. Takes the whole show (or maybe a whole day) to print a gnome, tux, pedobear, statue of Jonty etc.
Here's what we're taking
* Soldering Stations / Solder

* Multimeters
* Networking equipment
* Projector - I can bring an Acer P5370W along if wanted. I also have a free standing screen about 2M across. Nigle

* Assorted hand tools
* Dremels
* Wood/Perspex
* Screws and assorted fasteners
* Microcontrollers
* Smoke machine
* RC Equipment
* Servos / Servo extension cables. (The contents of the vending machine + the servo linbin)
* Motors
* Wireless cameras
* USB Video encoders
* Batteries
* Power Supplies + Croc Cables
* Wire (Assorted)
* RFID
* Microcontrollers
* Power strips
* Network cable
* Gaffer tape & Assorted other tape
* LX tape (buy some)
* Some lockpicking gear
* Toolboxes
* First aid shit
* Other tape
* USRP
* Osmocombb phones
* Radios
* Multitouch table
* STICKERS
* 3G dongle from Babbage
* A small amount of wood / perspex / fibreboard
* Glue (Guns? We can buy more glue sticks there.)

* How about liquid/expanding foam for the media? It's light, sets quickly, comes with a print-head (nozzle, flow control, and cartridge system), and can be broken up quite easily. However, the fire-retardant stuff that I used was quite toxic - but perhaps there is a friendlier version? --Teabot 09:16, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
** Nice idea. I'm sure I came across some recently that I thought would be handy if I needed a lot - very cheap, or bulk, or DIY or something.

Based around a scaffolding tower (could be hired in Newcastle rather than transported) with a winch at each corner suspending the hopper / dispensing nozzle in a frame of 4 wires (could use 3 but 4 allows travel right into the corners).
No idea what this is:
* Microcontrollers
* RC Equipment
* USB Video encoders

Winch drum rotations and cable tension are measured for position feedback and load sharing. Winches could be windscreen wiper motors, wheelchair motors or similar.

Prints a layer, then parks the hopper. Hopper is flushed while layer is allowed to set. This could allow a reasonably rapid-setting cement without fear of blocking the hopper (parking place should be accessible in case it needs manual attention).

Train is the quickest way, from King's Cross straight to Newcastle. Some of us may be bringing more equipment, so may need to hire a van or car.

Make a mockup the size of a fridge. Possibly using the glass fridge if it's truly broken. Might also be usable in hackspace as a vending machine if fitted with a grab. Use this to develop coordinate transformation and failure mode testing. Use it as actual exhibit if larger version is not finished in time.
* JimM will likely be hiring an estate car, but setting off from Cambridge rather than London.

*Camera on hopper for hopper's-eye-view. Use camera for 'instrument-landing' if it ends up being manually controlled.
*Replace hopper with ball for destruction of object.
*Make a subtractive printer by starting with a large block of foam and removing bits with a suspended strimmer.

What we don't have yet

To buy there if needed:

 • Assorted components
 • Bluetooth/wifi adapters
 • Screws and assorted fasteners
 • Microcontrollers
 • Glue sticks
 • Breadboard

No idea what this is:

 • Microcontrollers
 • RC Equipment

 • Mark

 • Underhand - driving up friday evening, returning sunday. Space in car available from/to Cambridge/Peterborough area.

What are we doing?

We will be running the hack area, where everyone can sit and tinker/hack. We shall have to take tools & equipment for people to use.

Individual presentations

Some members have applied to individually present:

 • A steam-powered turing machine - JimM (sadly, unlikely to be actually steam-powered unless the venue permits it)
 • I am exhibiting separately from Hackspace area: Twinkle Tartiflette, I <3 0X0 (interactive wearables / sound / game artworks) and possibly Grand Cat Turismo if I have time to finish! - Rain
 • I'll bring the kinect and show off some of the crap i've written for it - tom

Transport

Train is the quickest way, from King's Cross straight to Newcastle. Some of us may be bringing more equipment, so may need to hire a van or car.

 • JimM will likely be hiring an estate car, but setting off from Cambridge rather than London.

Publicity material

I've ordered 600 80mm dia circular gloss vinyl stickers based upon Russ' design as in File:London_sticker.svg - although there is really some other text that does not display on MediaWiki. There should be enough for each paying member to have one of these stickers and then 300 or so to hand out in Newcastle. Spike

These have now been printed and are at the 'space. Hopefully the hiding text issue mentioned above was resolved (I've not seen the finished article yet but am taking Diginate's word for it). I've given Martin D permission to give some of these stickers to the six year olds due to visit this coming Saturday (26th Feb 2011) - so there's still 380 or so for Maker Fair!
