Some time ago EFF had OpenWireless project: https://openwireless.org/ - it was working for a very specific router - Netgear 3800WNDR.

Unfortunately I've ordered 3800WNDRCH - Chinese version and there are some issues - https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=339893#p339893

If I leave the router in my box - and offer you 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 GBP (beer, mate, soylent, back rubs) for your time and effort - would you be willing to upgrade the router to Tomato / DD-WRT / OpenWRT / OpenWireless?

Anything really that would allow me to:

  1. Get signal from my home router at 2.4 GHz
  2. Distribute it further at 5GHz

I see it in a way - for someone who knows it - easy job - I've already wasted many hours just to discover that I have a dodgy version and the simple process does not work... And it is very little benefit of me investing yet another "many hours" to learn something that I'm unlikely to use in the future.
