Variable PSU
The broken power supply is now fixed. I think the failure may have been due to a tear in the silicone sleeve insulating the power switching transistors, resulting in them both blowing and shorting the mains. May be worth replacing this in both supplies with something untearable.
Welder
The welder that's been donated works, has a big spool of wire and a regulator for disposable bottles. There is also a simple mask and a couple of gas bottles. The main requirement now is a screen, though it can be used as it is, as long as nobody else is nearby. Please make sure the webcam is not pointed at the welding as it may be damaged.
Disposable gas bottles are OK to start with but you need to pretty well supply your own for each job as they won't last long. If anyone has some scrap steel for practising on, please bring some bits along. Not galvanised steel, please.
