We are looking at getting a second hand laser cutter

The item

The secondhand cutter was sadly not won.

Focus will now be moved to getting the remaining cash to buy a new unit of the same type. Unless a better option is found around the same price point.

Among the benefits of buying this unit new is the 12month warranty, and as shown in the auction, even broken units still fetch a large portion of their initial cost.

Additional information

  • Andy Slater has some interesting information on setting up and modifying this class of machines.
  • Another persons set-up/modifications for this type of machine.

The cost

The cost to repair has been estimated by http://hpclaser.co.uk/ to be ~£270

The cost new is about £2300

How much are we willing to spend?

Would 1/2 of its new value be reasonable? £1150

If with the cost of repairs taken off the bid would be £880, but it does include ~£100 plastic and a PC. So let's say the maximum we're willing to pay is £1000.

(I hope no shill bidder sees this .. )
