Introduction
The Compressor Delay Timer will automatically turn off the compressor after a preset time, which is currently set to 1 hour (approximately). This is to avoid members turning the compressor on and then forgetting to turn it off because it's stopped making a racket.
Usage
Usage is pretty straightforward:
- Pressing the green ON button switches the compressor on. It'll then automatically switch off once the timer has expired.
- Pressing the ON button again whilst the green indicator is lit will extend the run time.
- If you want to switch it off earlier, press the red OFF switch.
Troubleshooting
The orange power indicator should be lit at all times. If it's not lit, check the following:
- Check it's plugged in. It's currently plugged into the row of sockets behind the buffing machine.
- Check that the row of sockets are actually plugged in. They plug into a 16A Ceeform socket to the right of the door.
- Check the sockets are actually powered up by plugging something else in, like a lamp.
If the orange and green lights are lit, but the compressor isn't compressing, check the following:
- Check the compressor is switched on. Pull the red switch on compressor up to switch it on.
- Check the pressure gauges. It may be that the compressor is already up to pressure.
If you've performed the above checks and it's still not working, please unplug the controller and let someone know on the mailing list / IRC / etc. Sticking a note on the compressor would also be helpful.
Construction
The delay timer is based around an off-the-shelf GEYA GRT8-M2 Multifunction Timer. It supports various modes including delayed off, delayed on, latching, pulsing and a number of others. We’re using the “Off Delay” mode. The timer features a DPDT relay with both NO and NC contacts. One set of contacts provides power to the load. The other provides power to the LED indicators on the front panel. The load is protected by a 13A MCB. The control gear is protected by a 2A fuse.

Maintenance
The delay timer enclosure contains live parts and should be isolated before opening. It’s assumed that the person working on the unit is qualified to do so.
