Member Storage Boxes

From London Hackspace Wiki

London Hackspace members are allocated one for storage of personal items. Your personal box can be considered 'off-limits' to other members and visitors - within reason. In certain circumstances you may be able to store items outside of your personal box.

It goes without saying that the space should not be held responsible for any items left in your personal box.

How to Claim a Box

  1. Please don't take a box if you don't intend to use it, there's a limited amount
  2. Find an empty box with no label on it
  3. Go to the Membership_Kiosk, tap your card on the reader, and print a member box label sticker.
  4. Stick the label to your box, and you're good to go!

If you No Longer Need a Box

If you are still a member but no longer need your box then please empty it and remove the label so we know it can be re-issued - this will be a big help to new members who might need it.

If you're ending your membership of LHS then please empty it and remove the label so we know it can be re-issued - otherwise see section 'disposal'

Disposal

  • If a box is found without labelling identifying the member, it will be disposed of after three weeks.
    • Best effort will be made to identify the member and give them three weeks notice. If they cannot be found the main mailing list will be notified.
  • If a box is found belonging to an ex-member, they will be given three weeks notice to remove the contents and then it will be considered property of the space. The space may either keep it for LHS, distribute it to other members, or dispose of it as they see fit
  • If a large number of unidentifiable boxes are being disposed of, inform a trustee who will email all members.

Assembly

Jig for making member boxes. The jig has the jig for making box ends temporarily stored inside it.
  1. Slot the ends and sides into the jig.
  2. Place something in the middle to stop the sides falling in if necessary, leaving a little wiggle room to line up the sides with the ends when you drill.
  3. Place the base on top, with the side with the countersunk holes facing up.
  4. Hold the sides in place if necessary, and drill 2.5mm pilot holes in the sides and ends through the holes in the base.
  5. Screw in 50mm M4 self-tapping wood screws or similar to attach the base to the sides and ends.
  6. Remove the box from the jig and place it on one end on the floor.
  7. Find the end template and place it on top of the end, lining it up carefully. Use the template to mark where the holes should be, then remove the template. Drill 2.5mm pilot holes through the end pieces, into the sides of the box. The template is marked with five holes per side, but if you are short on screws, you can get away with three holes instead.
  8. Screw in 50mm M4 self-tapping wood screws or similar to attach the ends to the sides.
