General space news

  • The newsletter was resurrected (again) this week! If you have anything to add, please drop into the #london-hack-space-news IRC channel and report it. Volunteer editors are welcome!
  • There has been talk about setting up an optional -discuss mailing list to keep the noise on the main mailing list down.
  • The uk spacefed node is now linked into the rest of the spacefed network, so both London Hackspace and Nottinghack are online.
  • The Pledges/MakerSlide order has arrived. Please come and pickup your makerslide!
  • People are starting to book for OHM_2013, there will be a large EMF camp that you are welcome to join.
  • All registered members should have got an email about marking member boxes with member reference numbers. Please do this as soon as possible.

The New Space

  • Things are moving ahead with the new space, and a date for a group visit will be announced on the mailing list soon.
  • A list of things we want/need to do to fit out the new space is up.
  • Another list of the remedial work we need to do to our current space is also starting to fill out.


Equipment

  • Some people are misusing equipment in the space. If you have a moment please make sure to read the Faceplant wiki page, which details common mistakes.
  • The rage saw, despite the name, is quite delicate. Please treat it with care.

New

  • Hipster's new Vinyl Cutter is in the space. Please don't use it until you're trained, sign ups are here: Equipment/VinylCutter
  • Sully has installed a new printer, an HP Laserjet 2200D - details on the Equipment/Printers page


Upcoming events

  • TGreer is organising another Amateur Radio Beginners course, register your interest by filling out the form linked in the mailing list post.
  • The Not_Just_Arduino group are meeting tonight.
  • London_3D are meeting next Monday.
  • The hacker Housing-co-op group are meeting on Wednesday.


Other events

  • Tuesday 19th Jan 4pm - Radia Perlman lecture at UCL on 'Folklore of Network Protocols'. Mailing list discussion here and tickets can be booked here.

A few people are maintaining a list of interesting events not at the hackspace, mostly in London. Feel free to add anything people might like to go to.
