I'm thinking of working on the radio side of things to make this an alarm clock radio. Added bonus is that with a DAB tuner (maybe RDS too) we can also get time information to set the alarm clock automagically. Some things that I've been looking at:
* [http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10344 SparkFun SPI FM/RDS tuner module]
* Venice DAB modules (serial control) - usual sourced from old/cheap DAB radios:

** [http://www.coolapplab.com/ultimate_computer_dab_fm_radio_unit_usb_stick_windows_car_pc_centrafuse_ride_road_runner_frontier_silicon_venice_verona/index.html Purchasable venice module] - USB control.
