Because getting software to work with it is problematic for some, I'm working on a web interface that allows HPGL files (and possibly other vector file formats - DXF etc) to be uploaded and then sent appropriately formatted down a USB serial connection. Plotting directly from Inkscape seems to work fine, though if you want to save an hgpl output you'll need to add newlines before sending it to the plotter.
