<s>The Stratasys has seen very limited progress after an encouraging start. Believed to now have all requirements except for some repairs to stepper control boards.

Latest revision as of 19:25, 21 October 2021

This page documents projects that are causing problems for the hackspace because they're unfinished or unmaintained.

Projects which have been abandoned are liable to be thrown away or repurposed to recover the working area and the components in them. Any project can be proposed for this treatment : this page is where the progress is noted.

THIS PAGE IS A PROPOSAL - EXPIRY DATES ARE EXAMPLES

In particular, no attempt has been made at present to contact the owners named. The action dates are therefore not yet valid.

Procedure

A project that has been noted (marked for deletion ..) should be added to this page and the date noted. The project owner - if there is one - should be contacted and must respond by updating the page within 1 month. The response may be one or more of :

  • Action taken towards completing the project
  • Documenting an acceptable plan to make progress on the project
  • Agreement that the project should be scrapped and a plan for disposal

If this doesn't happen, the assumption is that the project will be assigned to the 3-week bin for eventual disposal. Initially, we'll say that consensus must occur for any project to be scrapped in this way. If the procedure is found to work we may be able to make the requirements less subjective. Other interested parties may change the requirements, disposal plans etc. but this will normally cause the 1 month waiting period to be restarted.

Note that the owner is not necessarily the owner of the equipment. Some projects are the property of the hackspace. The owner is the person who initially drove the project and takes responsibility for it.

Projects needing attention

Stratasys

Owner

Ianadan/Hipster Chris

Status

After vaguely working (but still dodgy), Stratasys was stripped down again before the move, and was given 3 months to be rebuilt in April 2013

Requirements

Print an STL off the internet.

Calendar

  • Billy contacted 6.10.2011, passed ownership to artag
  • Action required by 6.11.2011
  • Hipster performed first print on 3 November 2011
  • Action completed. No further action required while machine remains functional.
  • Non functional, being worked on by Hipster. Given until NYE. --Montyphy (talk) 12:05, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Disposal

Scrap

Note that the stratasys contains many valuable mechanical components and items bought by pledge for the repair. If the machine is scrapped, it must be disassembled carefully by knowledgable people and the useful parts retained, not torn apart by mad axmen.

Vending machine

Owner

Mark

Status

  • Progress slow since it was damaged and Solexious got busy with work
  • Mark has taken over and is retesting functionality from Jasper's notes

Requirements

See Equipment/Vending_machine#To do - basically, confirm whether everything really is broken, the PSU and motors work beautifully, need to write the software and interface peripherals

Calendar

  • Noted 'at risk' --Artag 11:55, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Project reassigned 20 July 2013
  • Locks picked by Henry on 1 October 2013
  • Action required by 3 December 2013
  • mentar joined the effort, motors all working, PSU reused and control circuit tested 21 February 2014

Disposal

Scrap, replace with a working one off ebay (£300-500)

Kilns

Owner

None

Status

  • New kilns were acquired without warning on 2 September 2013.
  • The high-temperature one works, and we're keeping it. We need to get rid of Abby's.
  • The lower temperature ones are massive and untested.

Requirements

  • 2 definitely require new thermocouples, 1 requires new ceramics from Carbolite for power connector
  • Test the damn things
  • Arrange pickup to Reading for one
  • Arrange pickup by Dean/Ian for second

Calendar

  • Noted 'at risk' --Ms7821 (talk) 13:06, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Action required by 3 December 2013
