Please make a donation towards the running costs if you use the printer.
The Hackspace's current office / general use printer is a HP Color LaserJet 4700n.  It lives next to Tesla on the reception desk. Please treat with care.  


* Replacement toner: 12A
* Current IP address for the LaserJet 4700n is: 10.0.70.147
* Location: Beside the desk with [[Lovelace]] and the [[Makerbot]].
* How to connect: Use IP address.
* Paper size: A4
* Protocol: Select HP JetDirect Socket (if available). This lets you set most if not all of the printer features.
* Type: Black and white laser
* Other Protocol options (less full featured): AirPrint (for iOS devices) and IPP for everything else.  LPD is ancient and best avoided.  
* Affixed to: Babbage
* Addressable via: CUPSd on Babbage
* Status: Working but the cable on the floor by the wall under the desk that's held into a USB hub with tape may be dodgy.

Cost per A4 page:  
Browse to http://babbage:631/printers/Gutenberg click on the maintainance droplist and select cancel all jobs


To print from a laptop use:

*Then manually select the HP Laserjet 1022 driver from the list.

Genuine HP toner cartridges are somewhat expensive, so use "remanufactured" ones instead. [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remanufactured-Replacement-Q5950A-1A-2A-Cyan/dp/B077RYFPHC/ heres some on Amazon that have been proven to work.] The printer will complain about non-genuine toner, but prints as normal.

The version of ubuntu we run on babbage has a bug that means it dosn't share printers via dns-sd (aka rendevous, bonjour, mdns), see this:
