The problem with the adsl router as modem (e.g. with PPPoA to PPPoE translation) is then you have fragmentation and mtu issues.

I should really get those adsl2mue things unbricked.

Also watch out for the cheaper geode devices, the plain sdram interface is 32 bits @ 33Mhz, thats not fast enough for packet forwarding + filtering between two 100Mbit lans.

It probably won't be fast enough for 20+Mbit adsl, esp if it's running any other services.

A slower device also means more latency...
