The Hackspace provides PPE (Personal Protective Equipment; that is, safety gear) for the benefit of its members and visitors. You are strongly advised to make use of it.

Equipment available for general use:

  • hard hats
  • A full-face visor
  • Ear defenders
  • Disposable gloves
  • Non-disposable gloves
  • Dust masks

Hidden dangers of safety equipment

Don't presume you're safer wearing the gear than without it. Gloves, for instance, provide an opportunity for liquid nitrogen to remain in contact with skin & burn you when a non-gloved user would have been able to shake off the liquid nitrogen. Wearing gloves with any power tool is a bad idea; you're more likely to get pulled into the machine if you do make contact with it, and you're not going to have the same awareness of where your hands end as you do without gloves.
