Sounds like optionally bringing small projects to work on is encouraged? Still small but showing signs of growth and organisation. Ben Hammersley will explain how the internet works at the Royal Institution on wednesday. The RI is also hosting a talk about how the world may end on tuesday. If it collapses into anarchy you may need to go to the DIY surgery event at the Hunterian museum on thursday where you can have a go at suturing and possibly have a go in the pop up operating theater. There is a talk about a possible :-) cause of the end of the world on friday, a talk about the Large Hadron Collider. See the Londonist week-in-geek link below.

Christmas eve. [http://www.southgatearc.org/news/october2012/fitsat1_signal_reports_requested.htm FitSAT-1] is a small satellite with 200watts of LEDs in low earth orbit. The tentative plan is that it will be flashing morse code in the night sky on Christmas eve. Low earth orbit means it whizzes over head for 5-15minutes then is out of range for hours. Presumably you will be able to tell when it is overhead from the usual satellite tracking websites or by listening to 437.250 MHz and 437.445 MHz. A basic scanner and good antenna will do but a receiver that does SSB, such as a funcube dongle, will be better for listening for the beacon. It's currently in orbit and sending back pictures from the camera on 5840MHz. Updates on the [http://www.fit.ac.jp/~tanaka/fitsat.shtml FITSAT-1 mission blog.]

Next London Raspberry pi meetup thursday 29th of November

Mouse taxidermy classes happening again, 21st, 28th November and 5th, 12th December

Lost Lectures on the 29th sold out quickly but there might be a few returned tickets available on the 22nd.

No Christmas Dorkbot announcement yet, but it's always good... (there's likely to be a Dorkbot on 28th november, not sure if that's a christmas one) There will also be a science museum late session on the 28th, the science of communication.

Christmas eve. FitSAT-1 is a small satellite with 200watts of LEDs in low earth orbit. Updates on the FITSAT-1 mission blog.
