We are currently discussing possibilities for slowing down or speed controlling this machine.
According to the specs it does 5500 stitches per minute. Fine for a sweatshop but....
Best option probably large DC motor and pwm control; watch this space.
All the above parts were received and fitted Sept-ish 2013.
Confirmed as working fine by a few brave souls..
Brother XL-3600
Working as of July 2013. Instructions can be found on Brother's website here
Toyota 2260
We have had an electric pedal operated Toyota 2260. It appears to not be operational anymore? Last update on it was someone tried to fix it with parts from another machine but it's entirely non-working now.
John Lewis Tiny Purple Machine
Broken as of July 2013. See this thread THIS IS FOR LIGHTWEIGHT FABRICS ONLY. Absolutely NO denim (like jeans fabric) or heavy materials like that. As in the instructions: If needle does not go through fabric, do not force it.
Also of note: It has quite a wide "free arm" - it's pretty much useless for anything small and tubular (like edges of sleeves or very small bags/pouches if you understand that).
Instruction Manual
These thumbnail pictures should help you start using the machine. It's mostly straight forward if you have the instructions in front of you. PLEASE remember to put the instruction manual back in the box so the next person can read it and learn how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine correctly. With the instructions it's easy-peasy to use.
Location of Extra Bobbins
They're in the box of random thread & haberdashery bits in the drawer directly underneath the cabinet sewing machine cabinet section.
Janome MS2522
We have two Janome MS2522 (Limited Edition). Both missing certain parts. The model appears similar to the HS2200
"Trained" Users
People who are willing to show others how to use the sewing machines. Does not guarantee they won't stop you from hurting yourself or damaging anything.
Who | Sewing Machine | Skills |
Ciarán | Toyota 2260 | Very Basic |
Akki | John Lewis | Basic |
Will | Brother XL-3600 | Very Basic |
Very Basic - Someone who can get the machine threaded. Able to run a stitch forwards and backwards. Basic - Can show how to use the other stitches and advise on thread tension etc.
Accessories
Accessories for the sewing machine are quite haphazard.
- There is a small selection of coloured thread, but bring your own to be certain of getting the right colour.
- We do not currently possess fabric scissors/shears.
- There are some boxes of random buttons and beads
- There is a tape measure
The following may be out of date: We have the following in stock to be used with the sewing machine. I will find a box for all this to go in, it should all be kept together
- Needles - Hand and Machine (Leather and "normal") - various sizes
- Black Thread
- Pins
- Seam Ripper
Things Needed
- A box to keep sewing stuff in!
Tamsin's List of Nice to have's
- Chalk or marking pencils
- Elastic
- Zips
- Buttons, poppers, hooks n eyes
- interfacing - What's this?! -- Ciarán
- Interfacing is used to strengthen fabric. It's like an inner-layer material - shirt collars or waistbands would use it, and comes in different weights Phae 09:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
