Mouse taxidermy classes happening again, 5th, 12th December

Lost Lectures on the 29th sold out quickly but there might be a few returned tickets available on the 22nd.

Christmas eve. FitSAT-1 is a small satellite with 200watts of LEDs in low earth orbit. The tentative plan is that it will be flashing morse code in the night sky on Christmas eve. Low earth orbit means it whizzes over head for 5-15minutes then is out of range for hours. Presumably you will be able to tell when it is overhead from the usual satellite tracking websites or by listening to 437.250 MHz and 437.445 MHz. A basic scanner and good antenna will do but a receiver that does SSB, such as a funcube dongle, will be better for listening for the beacon. It's currently in orbit and sending back pictures from the camera on 5840MHz. Updates on the FITSAT-1 mission blog.

• Orbital at the Brixton Academy.14 &15 December. The Saturday is over 18s only so I'm going that day. £32.50 including annoying fee even if you print your own ticket. Will probably sell out.

• Chaos Communication Congress The chaos computer Club's annual conference and winter time get together. Loads of good talks. 27-30 December 2012. Last time I went it was a mix of German and English language. You can get a lot out of it without speaking German.
• Eth0 winter conference
• OHM July 31st – August 4th 2013. Geestmerambacht, The Netherlands. The next in a series of camps that have been happening every four years since 1989.
• Fosdem 2013 2&3 February 2013. Five thousand open source developers in Brussels.
