Thursday evening Brixton Tinkerspace is meeting at a new venue.

This evening, Wednesday the 28th, [http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/13tw6m/reward_halving_parties/ some Bitcoin enthusiasts are meeting in the Ye Old Watling pub] (short walk from Mansion house, St Pauls and bank tube stations), around 6pm the reward for bitcoin mining halves and there is a slight risk of the whole network crapping it's pants due to an undetected software bug. Also tonight Dorkbot London will happen on a ship moored in the Thames and it's a science museum late session (with bar I think).

Christmas eve. [http://www.southgatearc.org/news/october2012/fitsat1_signal_reports_requested.htm FitSAT-1] is a small satellite with 200watts of LEDs in low earth orbit. The tentative plan is that it will be flashing morse code in the night sky on Christmas eve. Low earth orbit means it whizzes over head for 5-15minutes then is out of range for hours. Presumably you will be able to tell when it is overhead from the usual satellite tracking websites or by listening to 437.250 MHz and 437.445 MHz. A basic scanner and good antenna will do but a receiver that does SSB, such as a funcube dongle, will be better for listening for the beacon. It's currently in orbit and sending back pictures from the camera on 5840MHz. Updates on the [http://www.fit.ac.jp/~tanaka/fitsat.shtml FITSAT-1 mission blog.]
