Components

The Hackspace carries a range of electronic (and other) components in stock. As a rule, members can use anything for free, as long as the cost is less than £1. However, if you're using more than £5-£10 worth of components a month, we'd appreciate a donation to cover those costs.

Purchasing

Please include a link to the item, preferably from Farnell, or it won't be ordered.

If you're a member of the space we'll happily order components for you and take advantage of bulk discounts/free shipping. If the component you request is cheap, we may order more than you need and bring it into stock in the space (if that's the case, then it's free as above).

Requests

• Arduinos (we should probably get these from Earthshine, but our budget is a bit tight to stretch to them currently -Russ)
• Strip boards
• 0.5mm drill bit (for the makerbot)
• 0.8mm drill bit (a few)
• 1mm drill bit (a few)
• Spot-face cutters (or these) - we seem to have lost one of the two we had.
  • if you're stuck, use a 3mm drill bit. An actual cutter is a lot more handy though.
• For mounting PCBs in enclosures:
  • PCB spacers/stand-offs
  • M3 Nylon washers
  • Short M3 screws
• Spade Terminals
• Miniature trimming potentiometers
• crocodile leads and crocodile clips^[Rapid]
• another wire kit^[Rapid]

For Robert:

• 4N33 Optocoupler Transistor x 10
• 1N4007 Diode x 10

For Alex:

• Decade counter ICs x 2
• Hex inverting Schmitt trigger ICs x2

Consumables

We're running low on:

• 555 and 556 timers. These are generally useful, we should always keep a few in stock.
• Logic chips. I think the 74HCT series is a reasonable place to start, but I'm not an expert here.
  • This looks excellent. Do they come in kits? Couldn't find one. I'm particularly interested in shift registers & flip flops. Martind 21:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
• Breadboards, 550 tie points, 270 tie points (caution: these are US parts, didn't find the same locally)
  • Global Specialties, while a good make, is more expensive and has to be shipped from the US at a £16 surcharge. May I suggest this alternative.

We'd love some:

• 4093 (four NAND Schmitt Triggers in one chip, useful for e.g. polyphonic square wave oscillators)
• NTE4017B ("decade counter"/10-step counter, useful for sequencers)
